Self-Awareness, Mental Health, and Overall Wellness
During the summer 2017 before starting my second year of graduate school, I vowed to live a healthier and adventurous life. After enrolling myself in college and being able to travel to different countries, I realized that I needed to start making smarter choices about the foods I was eating, the individuals I was surrounding myself with, and my lack of physical activity. Thus, in order to become a better version of myself, I became a fitness enthusiast, started meal prepping, and started taking time everyday to do things I enjoy. Almost a year later, I am proud to say that I have continued these habits. However, there are times where I struggle, yet I have found support networks through the social media platform, to help me be accountable and continue my wellness journey. Taking the commitment to have a healthier lifestyle has allowed me to be content with my life choices. As a result, knowing how to take care of myself has allowed me to be a better practitioner, colleague, and friend.
Seeking Challenges and Growth
Seeking Challenges and Growth
Getting out of my comfort zone has been a challenge. However, in order to teach myself the value of continuing to grow, learn, and experiment I decided to apply for an Acuho-i internship. Through Acuho-i I was able to intern for Cornell University, where I learned the lesson of seeking challenges and growth. Cornell University allowed me to work in their Residential and New Student programs despite of me not having any residential experience (i.e. Residence Director, Residence Advisor, etc). Transitioning from being an Academic coach for the Disability Resource Center department to becoming a Head Resident allowed me to develop and utilize previous skills. With this internship I was able to better my organization skills, work autonomous, and become innovative. The trust that the department had in me allowed me to become more confident about my abilities as a student and practitioner. In reflection on this experiences, I realized that getting out of one's comfort zone can open many doors and allow room for exploration in different areas within higher education.
